Many of you know I see red when I see articles mentioning it is "Just Eczema" or "I need a Recipe for Eczema".

I am sure many of you remember my severe attack that happened on Apr 22, 2017 when I made a new lotion and tested it. I have still narrowed it down to the Evening Primrose, and just now getting over it after my second round of predisone. The 4mg Medrol Pak barely slowed it down. It has taken 40 mg per day to get it back under control.

The point of this is for people to know another danger to eczema attacks, my blood pressure went up to 196/111 and just finally came back down to my normal 130/70 when I went for a follow up today. Doc agreed that it was the allergy attack that had my BP up. I have had this since 2 yrs old so I am well versed in problems with eczema although the BP spike is new I knew it was from the attack, but the urgent care doctor told me BP goes low during allergic episodes. Not always. Bottom line Eczema is can be very Dangerous

So anyone that wants to formulate a soap, lotion, scrub etc for someone with eczema do no even consider it. I have personally never told a customer a product is good for eczema. If they want to try something I tell them to use it inside the elbow and see if they get a reaction.

Good reminder! It's probably wise advice to not attempt to make "healing" products unless you are very experienced in the science behind it. Most soaps make the psoriasis on my hands worse, regardless of superfat, oils or special ingredients. I need the steroid cream to control it.

I agree. I tell people that I would not even consider making soap "for eczema" without a RECENT signed list of allergies from an allergy specialist. Period. I have yet to have anyone take me up on it. I tell them if they want a bar of soap, that they are responsible for their own reactions.

Allergic reactions can be life threatening without warning. Something you have used your whole life can suddenly become an allergen for you without any warning. One minute you are fine, then the next your throat is swelling closed.

It bothers me a lot when people ask for feedback about a soap for eczema and lists all kinds of weird ingredients they want to include in this so-called miracle soap. Grrrr. I bite my lip and wait for Carolyn and Susie and the rest of y'all who are more qualified than I on this subject to chime in and bash some sense into their heads. I get the feeling, however, that some just blithely go ahead and make the soap anyway. Double grrr.

My sister, who is a lemon verbena fragrance fiend, developed eczema a couple of years ago. She never had problems before, and she was in her late 50s when it first reared its ugly head. I make soap for her, but just leave out all color and fragrance, keep the coconut oil low, and up the butters and oils. Nothing special, no miracle additives. I'm glad she can use it without problems. We did do a small batch test with a bit of clay for a little swirl of color - so far so good.

I still test small areas on my daughter's body from time to time but generally, if it's not a bar from my starter recipe, a bastile or Clearasil, She doesn't use it. With her allergies, ALL nut oils with few exceptions are excluded from soaps. I have yet to test a lotions on her but I don't since we have one that works great and leaves her skin feeling nice.

Well said!

I'm not on that much and I missed your story. I hope you feel better now.

It makes me see red as well haha. Many take "natural" as safe. It's not always the case, especially with EOs etc. Allergies can appear at any point in person's life.

You can not help some people learn. They must want to learn, and they must accept the information. Their doctor bills are their own. If they are selling soap, I hope they have insurance. There is nothing we can do but give them truth. It is up to them to accept the information.

That is very very true. So many think handmade soap is the ultimate fix for everyone. And most of us know they are many that cannot use any lye soap.
