I've made milk soaps a couple of times without any problem. I just weighed out my milk and put in ice cube tray, froze it to soap the next day. When ready to soap, I just put the cubes in a big bowl, pour in my lye (not slowly, just all at once works for me), and then stir and stir for about 5-6 mins. It melts the cubes up fine and dissolves the lye. At that point my lye solution gets about 80-90 degrees, then I just add to my fats and proceed as normal.

ok, so it sounds like i shouldnt even bother with the Silk coconut milk then. The only reason i asked about using it is because i didnt want to waste it, but if there is a significant chance of destroying a batch, i dont want to waste my oils. So i will save this information for the next time i have quality coconut milk! thanks everyone!

your soap needs Lactaid! just kiddin.

It's so unbelievably cold here that the other night I poured my lye into my pitcher on my back porch. I put the pitcher right outside my sliding glass door with only enough room open to let my arm out to stir. I look like a doofus, I'm sure, squatting on my kitchen floor stirring something on the other side of my door but it does alleviate the need for goggles and GREATLY reduces the stench in the house. Anyway, my lye sat in a few inches of snow in -5 degree coldness while I waited for my stearic to melt. Granted there was no milk involved so my whole story is probably moot but I hope you're staying warm!

Yes thank you i am. you are very kind for being an EvilNurse! ha ha. we have about 12-13 inches of snow on the ground.
No! NO lactaid!!! the mere idea of that makes my tummy hurt. :) As you know i am severely lactose, and have gotten very tired of soy. So this last week i have tried coconut and almond. My stomach has been hurting since. So tonight i finally read the ingredients, and at the very bottom of the box in small print it says there is 1% dairy milk. GGGRRRRRRR!!!!! Sad thing is i LOVE milk. But anyway, i hope you are warm too. I just made some sugar cookies, that helped me warm up:) it will turn into winter blubber that i get to work off monday in my cross fitness class. :)
