I'm not sure if I uploaded the photos correctly. This is the first time I have seen this on my soaps and I am assuming these spots are DOS. I check my soap often and these spots seem to have turned up overnight! Just want to verify it is what I think.

Well, that's definitely very DOS-like in appearance, but it's possible that it could also be FO that wasn't mixed in as well as thought. Do the spots smell more strongly of FO than the un-spotted parts, or does it smell 'off' in any way? How old is the soap?

IrishLass :)

Mmmmm, the soap is four months old. So far it does not smell bad. The Essential oil used was Jasmine. The soap still smells like Jasmine to me. The spots on the edges were rather oily. I could not say they are soft.

If it is not DOS but poorly mixed EO, would it take so long to show up?

The only oil I think could be questionable was grape seed oil and I did not use much - 2%.

Unfortunately, it doesn't take much... grapeseed goes rancid quickly if it's been open for awhile, especially if not refrigerated during that time. Even ROE won't help grapeseed much in those conditions, one reason I won't use it. Most unsaturated oils should be refrigerated after opening, and used up quickly.

I thought it might be the grape seed oil. I don't think I will use this again. Good idea about refrigeration. Will be doing that.

Do you think the olive oil and or pomace Olive oil also needs refrigeration though? Seems I read they both have a long shelf life.

Olive and pomace don't seem to need refrigeration, plus I go through them quickly so I don't bother. But the other more unsaturated oils, the few I do use, I keep in the fridge and use them quickly.

By the way, if anyone still uses liquid oils for cooking, they should be refrigerated after opening too. The same negative effects rancid oils cause in soap--DOS--also negatively affect your body. The first time I got DOS was when I stopped using liquid oils for cooking... figured if it was not good for soap, it certainly wasn't good for me. :( I only cook with sat fats now.
