Hi,
I'm seriously considering breeding with my tomcat Pito. He has such a lovely easy going character and the perfect Brittish Shorthair appearance. In fact, he looks an awfull lot like the Dutch champion
Plus he doesn't spray urine, just like his dad. That's pretty unique.
I have had one litter of 1 kitten with Pito and know for a fact his genes are strong... 8)

Does anyone have any tips on this subject to help me in the right direction? I'd be very grateful!

I'm with Topcat, I have no advice but had to tell you what a handsome guy he is.

:D thank you all so much! (proud mama) More important, he's just the most gentle & sweet thing on 4 legs... and really enjoys spreading his genes
So who am I to get in his way. And he'll be able to earn himself a new scratchpole with his 'gigolofee' haha

He is absolutely gorgeous! I used to show cats but in the Household Pet category. I had one guy that won several championships. I loved showing the HHP category. It was great fun and I met some wonderful people. We all cheered for each other's cats. :D However, to show in HHP your kitty has to be neutered.

In the pure breed category showing is a little more competative. Your boy looks like a Russian Blue but is he purebred? I suggest that you go to a couple of cat shows as an observer and see what it's like. TICA (The International Cat Association) is a good place to find information. They are the largest cat organization. www.tica.org and www.cfainc.org
which is the Cat Fanciers Association.

Hey gardener,
My boy is a purebred british shorthair. Same blue color, but a more thick-set build, round head & calm character. :)
My plan is having him checked out once by a official at a cat show, to be 100% sure he is a welcome addition to the british shorthair breed.

I've been reading into show regulations & breeding info for a while and hope to be going to a show with him next year.
Thank you gardener for the tip to go to a few shows without cat; I'm very much hoping there isn't a real competitive mood hanging around these shows  (don't need any 'catfights') That way I'll be able to fiend out without exposing Pito to anything negative :)

All things have to be done in their own time, and now my first objective is moving to a place where I feel well & my kitties have loads of space to live, eat, sleep & play. (oh affordable house with four bedrooms, kitchen my hubby nicknamed 'the walrus' can move around in, space for soaping and garden, where are you???!!!)
After the check out by a official & the vet I hope Pito will have some lady friends over

Thank you all for your encouraging responses :D

Hi Dagmar,

I see you're in the Netherlands. I didn't notice that when I replied before. I live in British Columbia, Canada on an acreage. I have four feral cats that I rescued and one house cat which is also a rescue. The cats that I showed were also rescues. Too many times I've seen the heartbreaking consequences of too many unwanted cats being dumped and left to fend for themselves. I know you wouldn't dream of doing anything like that and there may not be the same problems in the Netherlands.

Sounds like you have a very good plan for checking out the posabilities for show with your beautiful boy. I do love British Shorthar kitties as they are usually calm, quiet and regal. They know they are royalty :D

If you do show him, I know you will love it. It becomes an addiction. I miss going to the cat shows but there aren't any around here. Maybe someday when I retire I can travel to cities that have cat shows.

Please let us know what happens. I'd be interested to follow his "show career" and if there are kittens......we want pictures!! :D

Hey Dagmar ,

what kind of advice are you looking for ? I been breeding american bobtails for over 7 years. Currently we have stopped breeding due to the economy.

I have not shown my own cats yet but I have other breeders who do show buy cats from me. One of my cats has produce this guy http://oztoca.com/Kittens.html

he is now retired and my friend is placing him in a pet home.

I deal with F1 to 4 generation bobtails. My sister and I have been developing a line. I have one stud cat that we might show this year once I get a new car his name is Iggy

hey Roxy,
Awww, those are so cute :D Really strange for me though, cat with no tail... Can they still 'talk' with those little bumps?
I think I'm going with the Gardeners advise; around april there's a show near my home and I'm gonna 'stalk' all british shorthair owners and observe everything they do 8)

Thank you TheGardener!

That is what I wanted to say but was afraid my words would not come out right.

Thanks for the pics of the cats guys. We are absolute cat people in our house (anything with four legs actually!!), but those cats are soooo cute.
I used to have a blue russian (female). She got bitten on the leg by the feral dog next dog to my mums house (feral neighbours as well), we ended up having her leg amputated, so we had a three legged cat. Her leg went gangrene from the bite. Told you it was a feral dog. She was still absolutely beautiful. Lived a long and happy life, passed away totally unrelated to the dog bite. Seeing your baby Dagmar reminded me of her. :p

I loooove the russian blues! Isn't it amazing how animals just recover & go on happily with their lives? My friend had a three legged cats also, & she was still very graceful :)
