Hi all...I hope I am posting this correctly....I am brand new to soap making. I bought a jersey cow recently with the intention of learning how to make cheeses. Being absolutely swamped with milk...very, very creamy milk...right off the bat I decided to learn how to make milk soaps also! I have only made a couple of small batches so far but since my grown sons tried the soaps, and literally swapped them off the table while they were drying..I have decided to make more and see if they sell....Honestly, my skin has never felt so nice! I am excited to learn as much as I can with this newfound hobby!

Hi Marie,

Welcome to the forum.

I think it's great that you are using your own milk to make soap and that your sons love them. However, I recommend you learn more and make more batches before you consider selling. Generally, people's soaps improve over time and you'll also be able to determine how your soaps and fragrances hold up over time.

I know mine have greatly improved since I started soaping. I cringe now when I think how I pushed my earlier batches off on friends and family. It's surprising that they're even willing to take more now.

Welcome to the forum Marie! :)

Ditto what Hazel said. Soap is a lot like cheese in a sense. It takes time and patience to see how the soap will improve and hold up over time. Don't sell yourself short by selling too soon. I like to advise new soapers to give themselves at least a year before deciding to sell, and during that time to make lots of different soap formulas to test out in order to see which hold up the best.
