Greetings! I'm completely new to soap-making, made my first batch this evening, of course now I'm completely hooked and want to make more interesting bars.

While looking around I found this:

...and while I can figure out how to imbed one chopped-up type of soap in another, I cannot figure out how the maker of this soap achieved this. I'm stumped.

I'm sure this has been asked but I could not even begin to think of what to plug into the search engine here on the forums to find such a technique.

Halp?

Thanks much in advance,
bodhi

Hi Bodhi,

Welcome to the addiction! :D

I don't know how that look was achieved. I had a loaf that did look like that dark lining on the outside and cream colored on the inside but it was due to the FO. The FO was gradually discoloring the soap from the outside in. I was sad because I really liked the look. It reminded me of an Almond Joy. Eventually all the soaps turned dark brown.

Welcome to the forum, bodhi! :)

Like Hazel, I've had soap look like that before as well. As a matter of fact, it happens to me everytime I use a fragrance containing a high % of vanilla. Although I can't say 100% for sure, I have more than a fair inkling that that is what is going on that pic. If so, the 2-toned effect will only be temporary. Within a few days to a few weeks after the lighter areas are exposed to the air, they'll gradually turn just as dark as the outside.

IrishLass :)
