I remember reading a discussion about this mold awhile back, but I don't know if anyone has ever actually tried it out yet. I'm just as curious as you.

IrishLass :)

It says you still have to line the bottom, though. So I don't know that it would be any less hassle.

Yeah they also sell pre-cut liners for the bottom...
But that's a little expensive when you can do it yourself. I guess everybody needs to make money one way or another ;)

I look at it and figure because all 4 sides fold down that would eliminate the need for lining?

It's made of Birch and they may have "sealed" it with something, shellac or marine varnish, to eliminate "sticking" when you unfold it. If so it would seem that after repeated use the lye might attack the sealant and break it down.

I've made templates for my different molds so lining is a 5 minute ordeal and haven't had any problems yet.

aaaahhh I get it I think. I was watching a video on youtube and it seems that there is something glued or stuck to the side of the mold permanently. Vinyl maybe or some kind of plastic and all you have to do is change the bottom liner everytime.

I guess if you don't like cutting paper it can be a good investment in the long run, given that the liner or product doesn't start degrading like you said due to exposure to the lye , but for the moment I'll stick to cutting paper.

yeah, you could easily make that. glue some polycarbonate or lexan to the sides?

It's silicone on there. I almost bought two....but then realized that for the price of two I could buy about a bajillion silicone loaf molds from BB. So I did. Now I'm having custom ones made.

Interesting discussion. I've never been able to find any info about a silicone coating inside that mold. Where did you read that? As far as the silicone molds from BB - not a huge fan. I'm having lots of trouble with partial gel in those molds. I've given some thought to the Lifeworks mold, because if it is wood AND nonstick, they might be onto something. I have a custom mold from Soaphutch, and I doubt that ANYTHING could come close to the quality and ease of use.

You know I don't remember where I read/saw that. But I could swear it was sprayed or impregnated with silicone. I could be horribly wrong of course, since I cant find my source, so please don't take my word for it!

Just watched another video on U-tube and and the owner claims in the comment section that there is a permanent silicone lining attached to the sides. That would work.

I also think there are some videos out there that make the molds from laminate flooring - claim to be non stick.. That is alot for a mold but then again I am frugal and bought a wooden tool box from a flea market ($3) and lined it with the plastic wafer board that is used for signs ($5).

Just ordered a Lifeworks mold...am excited to use it. I will let you guys know how I like it :D
