Hi i am just about to start soapmaking but am having a hard time finding lye local. does anyone know if instaflow at 99% sodium hydroxide is appropriate to use? I hope to come here with more questions if i can get this hobby going...
 
yes that is perfectly appropriate, IF THE remaining 1% is not aluminum chips. What brand?

the brand is insta flow drain cleaner. It did not state what the 1% was .not on the MSDS sheet either. I found some anyway at Lowes by roebica? 100% crystals from someones blog somewhere so i made my first batch today very small basic olive oil soap
 
Roebic is fine. The other probably is too, but I cannot say for sure.
