I've got several recipes I want to try and the instructions say to infuse the olive oil with the herbs but I was wondering if I would get the same affect if I separated a portion of the water and steeped the herbs in that and when it cooled added it at light trace. I thought perhaps it might be quicker steeping them in water. Any comments?

If you add wet herbs to your soap batter you will get little moldy bits wherever the herbs are. Taking the time to infuse them in oil is well worth the time. I use the method that takes weeks or months, infusing in Mason jars and shaking regularly until the herbs are well infused and I have the color or concentration I want. Many people who want to do it quicker use the Crockpot method, which is just as effective and really quick. I haven't done it, but check YouTube or search for tutorials on crockpot herbal infusion. Lots of good advice out there. Let us know how it turns out!

Water will dissolve water-soluble chemicals and oil will dissolve oil-soluble chemicals, so you might end up with different results. You can gently warm either version for faster results. Try it and find out!
