hi everyone....
can i do this?
i want to use my favorite recipe to do swirls and other stuff...BUT it moves too fast to work with....I like it because the batter is lighter/whiter and easier to color with. I could go with a recipe that has more olive oil so it won't trace as fast but it makes it harder to achieve the colors I want because of the yellowish/greenish of the oo. I already use full water in my fav recipe and it's still not workable.....So, my question is can I use more than the full water amount? For example if full water amount is 4.6 could i go 5.6 or 6.6 ounces? Is this logical?
thanks in advance
Sylvia

I wouldn't recommend it - the soap would take forever to harden and would be prone to warping.

Would you mind sharing your recipe and your methods - mix of oils, soaping temps, any tricky fragrances, etc? That would help us to trouble shoot.

Regular olive oil (grade A, the kind that comes in big jugs at Costco or Sam's Club) is pale yellow and does not make yellowish soap. At least not in my experience. EVOO is a different matter.

It may be that stirring or whisking might work better for you than a stick blender.

a better olive oil....Yay!!! tomorrow I'll go get some.....Thanks bunches and I'll let you know how well it works out.....

I soap rt and use palm, coconut, castor, olive, and sometimes almond or rice bran oils.....

thank you for your advice, I appreciate it very much....

I use grade "A" olive and my all olive soaps are stark white. So yes try a different olive. From the oils you listed you should have no trouble doing swirls or anything you want. Like Judy said if you share your technique maybe we can help.

My favorite recipe is this one.

30% Palm
30% Olive
20% Coconut
10% Shea
5% RBO
5% Almond

Soap at RT, full water....I add sodium lactate at .6 oz, 1 TBSP sugar, a little pinch of tussah silk....Stick blend some, and stir some until emulsified...then separate, add colors and lastly the F.O. The most recent I've used are Pumpkin by WSP and Rain by WSP and Waterlily Orange by BB.

Thanks!!!

Your recipe and tecnique looks fine. Try leaving out the SL. And just make sure your room temp is not to cool. Those thing may be the problem. Unless of course it's the FOs I haven't used those particular ones. Maybe someone else can help on that part. Hang in there.

It's got to be your OO. My soaps come out white or very light using the same oils as you do. I also get my OO from Costco or Sams Club which is a grade A OO.

I do RT also and find that my recipe sets up quickly. If I want to do swirls and such I warm the oils a bit and soap warmer. That's worked for me.I know I have a tendency to SB too long since I want to make sure it reaches trace. You might see what happens with warmer oils, not too warm, but a bit warmer. Don't have the lye water do all the work.
