SOAP PLANER
Oh my god, these are just the best! Have a look at Nizzy's website, he makes these planers himself. I have had so much fun planing soaps, it's good to clean up bars and makes them as smooth as glass, shaves off any ash or bumps. It is the finest blade, I think you could get about 150 shaves off a normal piece of soap, that's how thin it shaves! It has really added a professional touch to my soaps! You can also hold the soap on it's edge and use it for bevelling.
I planed some soaps that I swirled, but couldn't really see the swirl. Just planed each site, and it turns out my pretty swirls were just beneath the surface!
Srsly people, you NEED one of these~~I wouldn't live without mine now!
Oh and be careful, they are super duper sharp!!

I'm drooling Chrissy! That is on my list of must haves, after a cutting guide and another log mould (a proper soaping one  )...oh...and those wonderful Hawthorn Bay silicone slab moulds. I was just talking to my DH on the phone and mentioned your post here, then I said I needed a cutting guide first and he offered to make me one! I have only been hinting for about 6 months for one....I guess men really do need to be told/asked outright!

Tanya :D

Lucky ducky!
Hey chrissy, does it have a guide for bevelling, like the tog one? I can't tell from Nizz's pic,& wasn't gonna hassle him B4 I could afford one. lol

TC: I use a mitre-box,with a peice of wood used as a stop for my cutting guide. But when I win the lottery I'm gettin me a tank! :D :D

I was all set to get me one of those gekko....until I measured my soap loaf. It is slightly too wide for the smaller one and way to small for the big one, as I am very fine-motor challenged (for that, read 'clumsy' ) and don't think I could keep my soap straight in there! I really like the idea of one built to fit my soap size, so I am being very encouraging :D

Tanya :)

what? no link?

don't you realize I'm lazy???

guess i'll have to do some searching :D

I've been dithering about getting one of these for a while. Your thread convinced me that I need one right now. Thanks ChrissyB, I've just ordered one. :D

Jenny you will love it.Knowing Nizzy, if you have ordered it from him, he will send it asap. I had ordered mine from here and it got here to me before the funds even left my account. He is super fast and such a nice guy to deal with. I have a nice little collection of his moulds now too.
Thanks Tanya for the tip with the sodium lactate in the batches with the dividers. They work great. I also got some food grade silicone spray and just give a quick spritz with that and they come right out. Question for anyone with nizzy moulds: do you use the plastic laminate liners that came with them, or do you use something else? Last time I used one of mine, I tried the contact adhesive paper (US mactac). It works great..
I have so much fun unmoulding a batch of soap and planing the bars into perfectly smooth straight lines. It's amazing what's just below the surface when you plane it off too, with swirls I mean. The colours seem to jump out! My last batch of curls/shavings I put through a new batch, but I do have a soap dish full of the little rolls for single use handwashes. I put some in a sachet to give to my mum as a little present and she went crazy for them!

??? I didn't get liners with mine, but I'm finding contact works well with it. The sides are always fine anyhow, they release nicely,so next time I'm going to try fun foam just on the base.Have had the most luck with that as a liner in my reg. moulds over evrything else plus I hope it'll give the dividers something to sink into a little. They don't quite touch bottom everywhere usually.
I wonder if Nizz would consider an Aussie version of a multi-wire cutter?I'd buy one from him tomorrow if he did! :D I costed postage on a tank.  $88 on top of the $297..$452AUD all up!!!

Yes, he is lovely and I will have the planer very soon. I'm quite excited. :D

I got my planer this morning. I love it! It's a "must have" item. I can now laugh in the face of ashy goat milk soaps.

Jenny, told you that you would love it! You will wonder how you lived without it, I don't know how I ever got by without mine.
How smooth does it make the bars? They feel like glass after running through it.

Amanda, it's AU$38 + postage of AU$10 within Australia. Postage to US would be more expensive but you'd have to ask. :D

They certainly do Chrissy. I can't wait to use some of the curls in new soaps.
