Ok I made my first batch of soap last night. I left it covered in 4 towels for 12 hours. when I uncovered it I discovered some of the oils separated . I had liquid oils in the corners of the mold. I now have it uncovered in hopes that it will get hard. Can anyone tell me why this happened? Did I not mix it enough? did I not leave it covered long enough? by the way, I did RTCP

Did you check your recipe in soapcalc? Sometimes you have to let it sit longer and the oil will reabsorb into the soap. I'd check my recipe and if it's correct, let the soap sit for awhile longer and see if it gets better. I usually let mine sit overnight and it's ready, but sometimes I have to wait another day. It can be the fo too.

well thanks for the tip. My feelings was so hurt I just threw it out. It was my first try

always give your soaps at least a week to sit still and see if they decide to reabsorb etc... sometimes extra time is all that is needed.
that goes for FO's too. i used an FO that OOB smelled great but when i soaped it, i hated it. i left i on the back of my shelf for a month (forgot about it) and now it smells really good. not the same as the OOB scent but still good.

Krissy when you left it sitting for a week was it covered or uncovered. when I took the soap out of the wax paper. the top looked well mixed with color and oils but the bottom was not. It had clumps of white and pink oils and clumps of solid soap and liquid oils

i left it out on a shelf in the back. but that was with an FO i didn't like, not a separated batch...which i haven't (knock on wood) had yet. the info about letting the soap sit and see if it reabsorbs is from other soapers that have been asked similar ?'s before

If you post your formula, we'd be able to offer more help. Without it, we're basically just guessing at what went wrong.

Did you use a lye calculator?
What temps did you mix at?
Is your scale accurate with good batteries?
How much fragrance oil or essential oil did you use to scent?
Did you use a stick blender or blend by hand?
Are you sure you reached trace before pouring into the mold?
