I made the most amazing soap

Sorry, bragging! I'm sooooo excited. Night before last I did a cphp batch (ok, it was 3.5 lbs):

2 oz castor oil
39.8 oz lard
6.7 oz oo
10.6 oz coconut milk
10.6 oz water
7.7 oz lye
1.5 oz maple butter creme eo (I deliberatly under scent my soaps at the request of my customer base).
brown & red coloring (can't remember what I used, sorry) mixed

The night I did it, it was wonderful and I used it today and it was even better. Creamy, lathered nice, very small but consistent bubbles, nice and firm. My skin feels luxiourious and sinfully spoiled! I'm anxious to see if it gets better and what it will be like in 6 weeks. Hope I still have some by then - one of my testers came over last night and saw it just HAD to have her piece (normally I wouldn't give it to her until the 6 week point) and she asked for 12 bars! I told her I'd rather wait until it was ready but she insisted. She's a friend, so I caved. She called a bit ago and now wants 12 more of the same batch which I told her she could have IF she was willing to humor me and wait at least 4. She payed me instantly! I'm flabbergasted! So much for having any for sale, oh well. I've only got a few left and hope to be able to hang onto them - I'd really like to know how this soap is going to react as it finishes curing. I'm one to take meticulious notes at every 7 day stage for 6 weeks and if it doesn't meet standards then I keep it for myself.

Now, if I could only figure out how to post pics, lol. I'll figure it out in the next day or 2 and post them.

Sorry, just needed to brag to people that understand. Wally World was out of lard tonight so I'll have to hit another one tomorrow before I can make more, grrrrrrr.

I had to buy a new Crock Pot today because I decided that the old one was too small for making big meals in. Cunning aren't I? :mrgreen: Guess who wants to try making soap in a CP?

Thanks everyone. I used canned coconut milk and added it just before thick trace. Made it a wonderful creamy color (I'm going to do a summer fruit salad batch and not color it just because of this) Castor oil was added in the very beginning right after I added the lard to the cp. I melt my co in the microwave because its easier to measure that way and then I don't have to wait for it to melt - it seems to take the longest.

I forgot to add that I put in 3 oz of honey just before molding when I added the color and eo. I'm still playing with the colorants. Someone told me just to mix the powder in at mold but I didn't get a good blend the first time I did this, so this time I mixed it with a bit of water before adding and it turned out better but wasted alot due to it sticking in the mixing bowl (I measure/mix all of my additives in small finger bowls). The colorants are from bb and are water soluable, anyone have any suggestions? The stuff is expensive!


Bubbles Galore - I use my big cp for both food and soaping - I know, probably a no no but I'm careful to take it out and mix in any additives so the pot doesnt color or smell. Then I run it through the dishwasher twice before using for food and so far no one has gotten sick. Just a thought. I actually have 3 now, 2 for multiuse (1 big, one smaller) and 1 I use exclusively for scented soaps. Just a thought.

Was wondering if there was coconut oil in your soap. I noticed further down that you said you melted the co in microwave but I dont see any cocnut oil in the recipe. I might like to try it and just wanted to make sure first. It sounds amazing!!!

It sounds really marvelous.

I'd seriously be very wary of selling so soon. You don't know, for example, how this recipe, colorants, and particular FO will hold up over time. You may want to wait until you have a deeper knowledge of them all.

????? I really hope you didnt make a mistake and sub the coconut milk for the oil...cause if thats the case your batch will be lye heavy and dangerous to use...

I'm hoping the batches my sister and I made yesterday is going to help it! In fact I put on a pair of rubber gloves that was new to make the soap with, and they broke out my arms and hands. They looked like I had the measles. My daughter noticed them tonight and wanted to know, WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR ARMS? So I am making soap to TRY and get my poor skin better!!

I will run it through the calc. before I make it.

i played a bit with soapcalc and it looks to me like there should be 7 oz of coconut oil in there as well.

might want to test the recipe with a smaller batch than she used, though.

I know this is off topic, but RoseMarie, are you sure you don't have a latex allergy? With your reaction to the gloves that's what it sounds like to me....just a thought

yeah I was wondering about that to on the latex allergy. I've never been allergic to them before but that's nothing new, it happens all the time with folks. They were new and had like a powder on the inside of them so I am also wondering IF it could have been the powder. I am going to wash them in the washer before I use them again and see IF that was what it was. But that's HOW sensitive my skin is. I know one thing it sure did itch! I had to take them off to finish the soap. Sister had some on so she did the parts I couldn't do without gloves on.
Thank you for the amount of coconut oil. I am going to run it through the calc. before I make it. I am itching to make some more soap! Just as SOON as I can get a little extra time where everythings not going on around me so I can concentrate I am going to make some more. I want to make some plain so I can remill it.
