Re: using beer...

I don't drink the stuff (beer I mean) and have 5 bottles of Corona left in my frig from a party. Maybe I can use it to make some soap...I noticed that the beer recipe that you shared Fichen, has stearic acid. I've never used that. Is it necessary to put that in the soap. If it is necessary, where do I purchase it? Would a drug store have it? What does the stearic acid do for the soap.

for summer i make a Corona with lime EO soap, which is a hit. i anchor the lime with some lemongrass or litsea, otherwise the lime just fades out wayyyyy too fast...

I really want to try beer soap, but every time I mention it to someone they cringe....

Aside from the extra bubbles does it add anything else to the bar? any conditioning properties? creamier lather?

That looks great! I might have to buy some beer just to try out making beer soap, maybe on my next days off.

Do you replace all the water with beer ... or is it a mix of beer and water?

You really have my interest raised Finchen ... as your beer soap looks so good!

I think beer is more of a novelty or label appeal ingredient. But it does really increase the bubbles and it's a favorite soap among my friends and family. Maybe someone who's more experienced knows about any other properties.

I have replaced all the water with beer.
Thanks Finchen!

I mixed the lye with frozen beer
... do you mean that the beer was still frozen when you added the lye ... or ... had it thrawed after being frozen? I'm really wanting to do this ... but I need to get my head around the whole using beer instead of water idea.

Plus ... what does this soap smell of?

Sorry if all my questions are annoying!

Your questions are not annoying! The beer was frozen when I added the lye, I added just a little bit lye, then crushed the frozen lye a bit, then added more lye, crushed again until it thawed, then stirred and added the rest of the lye and stirred and stirred... This process took around 2-4 minutes all together.

The first 2 days it smelled a bit odd but today it smells neutral to me. It doesn't stink like beer. :D

WOW! Super cool I am going to try and make it an "Oatmeal Stout" soap. Great idea I am very excited to try this one.
