I have given a couple of bars of soap to my family to try out. Yesterday I went to visit my 3 year old niece and I also dropped off some soap for my family to try out. My mom told me that the last bar of soap I dropped off did not last long at all. She told me that my niece would go into the bathroom for 15 minutes at a time and just wash her hands!

I am so excited that she enjoys using my soap! I really want to make a batch just for her but need to learn more about coloring soap. She loves girly colors and would probably like some soap that is pink and purple! I have been shying away from colors that are not natural and have only used annatto and paprika for color. Does anyone have any suggestions for colors that are kid safe?

Ok, so after reading this, I was expecting something along the lines of an actual small fan that you found to help dry your soaps. ;) I'm still trying with natural colorants...one of these days I'll be pleased with the results!

Lizflowers, that was my first thought too. And lanto what a cute story. Reminds me of a friend who, after smelling my rose soap, told me her childhood memory about her mom's rose scented hand cream.

There are a lot of natural colorants you can use. Madder will give you a pink to red, there are clays that will give pink to reds and some roots too. Some paprikas will make pink. Alkanet apparently gives some people wonderful purples. Dont ask me how though, ive never got a purple with it. Blue you can get with indigo or woad. Most yellow petaled flowers will stay yellow in soap... search around the boards, there are lots more. Congratulations on your little fan!

After reading about natural purple colors (they all seem to look sort of grey) I will probably not try to attempt it. I think if I use less paprika it might look more pink rather than salmon colored. I think what might really make it niece soap is a fun mold. I saw some cute flower and animal molds on line.
