I have too much soap! And I told myself I cannot make more until I get rid at least half. I love making soap so incredibly much but how do you others get rid of it all when you are just beginning? So far friends and family love it, should I just give more of it away and ask for feedback so I can improve? The bars are like my babies and it is hard to say goodbye

Believe me I know how you feel - I'm only at this a very short time, and already I think I have more soap than I can use in 10 years...and so far, none of it is sufficiently cured to give away (I'd prefer to wait until it's at least 3 months cured, to give my friends & family a positive early experience). I keep notes of all recipes, process etc, in case it helps me in future.

I've even started re-batching soaps that there is nothing 'wrong' with per se, just that I'm not that excited about, partly for practice, but also to stop me from making more soap, and it taking over the house completely...

Once mine has had more time to cure, what I plan to do is give away all but 2 bars of each batch, and keep notes on who got what, and any comments that I get back. Mostly I want to try each soap myself - I have extremely sensitive and psoriasis covered skin, which is why I became interested in the first place. I think that for me, 2 bars is more than enough for personal testing, and if I love it, I'll have my notes and can make more.

serfmunke, I do feel your pain, but I think it's the best way to be able to keep making more soap!
Then, I do the same thing that BlueValkyrie does: I have a notebook binder that I store my SoapCalc printed recipes in (with tons of notes added.)
I use one (or two) of the well-cured bars that I keep for myself, and put the other bar away for research. I want to see how well it holds its scent, make sure it doesn't develop DOS, etc.

Ah, yes, it is a problem. I've been making soap for about a year and a half, but haven't made the leap into selling yet. My family and friends benefit from my soap making habit. I usually bring a big box of soaps to family functions and everyone just digs in. Some of my family and friends will stop by for some. Others just tell me if they are running low. I wonder what they'll do if I ever get up the nerve to start a business. Hubby says I'm like a drug dealer. Getting everyone hooked by giving out freebies.

My youngest sis called me and said after a month of using my chamomille soap that I either had to go into business or show her how to make it. Says she can't live without it. She has Rosesha( Spelling) on her face and it has been behaving well since she started using it and she has even been able to eat tomatoes. She used my other soaps and says her skin has never felt this good.

I make no claims but I can't live without it either. Another sister just mailed me some silcone molds for fall leaves and pumpkins to make her some fall handsoaps to decorate with. This is just to much fun.

I hear ya. I'm on rations at the moment too and only allowing myself to make one batch or less per week. You may have to start making smaller batches to satisfy the urge to create, although I find anything smaller than 1kg (2lb) bothersome. :wink:

as long as the soaps are safe to use, no zapping and no lye pockets etc, make a donation to Homeless Shelters or Domestic Violence Shelters. It is a good and generous way to relieve your soap burden and bless someone who could use it.

As a thought, we live in a small town and every now and again I take up 4 bars to the post office to give to the 4 people who run everything and deliver the mail. Goes over real well. I do this at Christmas time also.

What, without giving away your recipe obviously, do you put into a chamomile soap? The hubby has skin issues and would like to help.

Everyone has some great ideas, I think I can get rid of a bunch/store some soap and start perfecting some of my first recipes.

Serf I cook my Chamomille Flowers in Olive Oil in a small Crock pot for about three hrs. I let it sit for a while. overnite is fine. I then drain the oil and use in the soap. I crush up to a cup of the flowers depending on the size batch I make and add them back at trace.
I use OO. CO. PO and little Castor and Shea Butter. Sometimes I add a tablespoon or two of powdered milk or goats milk. If you need the recipe I will be glad to share it with you.

Yeah, awesome, if you would share your recipe that would be great. I do use other oils than you but I am sure I could use the calc to alter the recipe to suit my current oil supply. I have EVOO, CO, Castor, Grapeseed (was gonna make a scrub), flax, vitamin E, and Babassu.. Is there any specific numbers I should shoot for?

I've only been at it for a few weeks now, and I already have a lot of soap! Fortunately, my mom wants us to keep four soaps from each batch, and next week is when the first few batches will be ready for use... this is going to be one major home made soap using frenzy.
