Human Fat

After I began making soap, I thought back to Fight Club... then I started to wonder... and it looks like someone did just that:

Wondering what kind of properties our own fat would bring to the table?

I find that too gross to wonder about. A huge majority of soaping oils are potentially consumable except that. So, eww.

There is a theory that soap was discovered through human sacrifice. The Celts burned their human sacrifices, and so the fat rendered out and combined with the lye from the ashes, then flowed down the hill and the people realized it was easier to get things clean in the streams that ran from these hills.

This was a myth. The markings on the soap indicated a fat processing plant.

The Nazis did indeed make soap from human fat, from people- Jews- they slaughtered in the camps, but on an experimental scale, not commercial. If you read the wikipedia page it notes this.
I have read some of the experiments' documentation, and the banality of the matter of factness is chilling.

So, not myth. And yes, depraved.

That is exactly why I have no desire to discuss the subject. It is no myth. Until you have been to one of those concentration camps and have viewed the ovens don't claim that the Nazis were innocent of any atrocity. Revisionists have been working for years to try and gloss over activities in these concentration camps.

I agree. The Holocaust was horrible. So horrible that we MUST remember the truth. All of us, and all the truth. So that we do not repeat those sins of the past. The revisionists need to realize that it is only us knowing what happened that keeps us from doing it again.

Not saying the holocaust was a myth... I'm saying making soap out of the bodies was. It was a misunderstanding among Jews and translation of the stamping on the soap itself:

Also, think about how cost prohibitive it would have been to slaughter and render the bodies of the victims, for just the fat, and nothing else. If it happened, it would have been at a cost and for just pure spite.

If there was an eye witness or an account of an eye witness making/rendering, then I will repent of my stance. But from what research I've done, it was a rumor that circulated in the concentration camps, potentially an experiment in a lab once, but not much more than that.

There was certainly more than strong rumours about the glycerine from corpses being extracted to make explosives. Apparently a visiting Japanese dignitary was shown a factory where it happened

Not the only one, no. I thought "Fight Club" at first, also. Which was, I think, what the OP intended. However, this thread, like many others, took a different path than the original intent.

Just so everyone understands, I am not saying that human fat was used to make soap by the Nazis, nor am I saying they did not. All I said was that we need to always remember the many, many atrocities that took place during the Holocaust, lest we allow another person to come to power to commit such actions again. And I am not only pointing fingers at the Nazis! Every culture has some atrocities somewhere in their background! Every last one. No group of people can claim otherwise. We need to remember, and the Holocaust is the most recent, and best documented example we have.

The sad thing, though, is that the revisionists are writing the history books here in America. So our children, and our children's children will not know, unless we tell them.

Oh right, I forgot about that in Fight Club! I was thinking one's OWN fat after liposuction. That would still be horribly gross but I could understand thinking about it, if one was a soapmaker and was going to have it done anyway. lol.

I think it might be easier than beef tallow - they suck it out with a tube so the fat is already liquefied (or at least very very fine) and there are no meaty bits.
