How to Swirl, specifically spoon swirl?

I've seen all kinds of swirling techniques, but i can't find how to spoon swirl.

Or am I over thinking it and its just where you take you spoon and manually place the colors where you want?

You just use a spoon. I don't have the patience for it but I sure think the ones I've seen are beautiful.
