How to blend FOs?

If I want to try to blend FOs to try and dup a scent, what’s the best way? Does it matter if you mix drops of FO together first or just put individual drops on a cotton ball directly? Which is better or is there a best way to test?

I want to try to make something similar to the delicious scent of Aruba Aloe “Aloe Breeze”. Their website says “The refreshing scent of pineapple, kiwi, and green apple will surely transport you to Aruba's tropical paradise.” I asked the different staff at the store about the scent and heard passion fruit and citrus, too. Just got my Green Apple from WSP, so now I’m ready to blend and sniff!

I have a little bowl that I use to mix fragrance oils. I will cover the bowl overnight to determine if it is what I’m looking for. then place a little on a cotton ball.

I cut paper towel or toilet paper rolls into strips to mimic manufactured scent strips. Add scents one drop at a time. If I think I like something I put them in a snack bag, seal and check out the next day. If I like the scent in the bag, I have a winner
