Hi, I just made some patchouli blend soap and I can't stand it! I know a lot of people like patchouli but it makes me gag! I feel like I should be at a Dead show. lol I made just 6 bars to test at my next show and am curious how others do with this scent.
Thanks for the input!

a lot of people like it. I don't. I traded it for something else. I just couldn't stand it.

Is it straight patchouli? How much did you use? I've found a little goes a looooong way - and it's best blended with other oils to give them an "earthy" note, rather than used alone. I think it smells like dirt alone & can easily be overpowering.

I'm using MMS's hinoki wood. I don't mind it, my brother loves it (and keeps asking for more, so i keep it around) and roomie absolutely abhors it.

I guess its a bit of 'how long is a piece of string'...it depends on your opinion!

people like it, yuck to me. I always mix it with sandalwood to lighten the smell a bit.

Many years ago I loved it... when you walked into the head-shops and that was all you could smell. Now, I don't like it unless it is a very light blend.

I don't mind it. I didn't make it for my last (first!) craft show because I figured not many people would like it, and I got two requests for it! I just made a batch of straight patchouli a few days ago, and it really does not smell THAT bad. It is definitely an "acquired" scent....

i love patchouli, but i don't like any of the patchouli candles i've smelled to date.

there are different patchouli's, too. the one i've got now is sort of smokey, and less sweet than the one i am used to. however, the one i'm used to came in a very small vial, was thick, sweet, dark and rich.

i've got a lavender/sage/ylang ylang soap that i can't stand, but i have several friends that LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it.

Different people like different smells, and different people smell things differently (and taste things differently), too.

i got to thinking, when i do start selling, it would be difficult to make things other people like, instead of only making things i like. know what i mean?

Salty I know exactly what you mean. I have to practically force myself to use scents that I really don't like but others love.

opal, good idea, i have dragons blood, adding pach to it, may have to try!

doesn't dragon's blood already have patchouli in it?

it might not, but i thought it did.

i guess it does,, pach, rose , musk, it doesnt smell like pach to me or rose!

I lurrrrrrrvvvvv Patchouli (EO) and Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Rosewood, Vertiver and Musk. Basically anything woody and earthy. I think those scents have a sexy, sensual sort of mystery to them. Atleast that's what I feel/think around them. Maybe I just have been conditioned that way - I dunno! I might also add that I used to go hang out at the temples in Japan, not because I was religious, but because I loved the smell of the wood and the incense together. It might just be good conditioning. I hate the smell of super sweet scents, and gag on the overly floral.
