Is there a guideline for the amount of essential oil to add for scent? I made a pound of soap, added peppermint oil after trace until I could smell the mint. After curing, very little peppermint scent. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Willy

I'm not really an expert on EOs, but it does depend on several factors. If it's a strong EO, usually .5 oz PPO will do. For others, I'd do .7 oz PPO. Then you have to consider which EOs you are using and their safety at certain levels. Still, peppermint is a pretty strong oil. I used it in part of a blend almost a year ago, and that sucker's still pretty strong. How much did you use PPO?

I didn't measure, I just went by smell. Looking at if as PPO, I see I did not use nearly enough.

Thanks
Willy

If you go over to brambleberry they have a scent calculator, where you put in the amount of soap you are going to make and then click on the relevent scent and it comes up with the amounts to use from subtle to strong. Hope this helps. They have EO's and FO's on there.

Relle.

Just went and did a calculation over at brambleberry for you and it said -

1 teas - subtle
2 teas - medium
3 teas - strong

in that amount of soap.

Most of the time I will use 1oz per pound of oils. They are just for personal use, but I love my soaps meduim to strong scented.
