I think that I want to have a set number of soaps as regular range and then will do something different for holidays or just on a whim. But what I am not sure of is how many to make? I was thinking maybe 4 - 6, what do you think? I plan to use EO's and would like to have at least 1 or 2 'scrubby' soaps. Oh, and they are gonna be body soaps, not shampoo or facial (at this stage). TIA

oh well, let's see I'm thinking about 12 in mine - there are a lot of "types" and I'd want at least 2 options in most of them

fruity
floral
herbal
plain
specialty facial
specialty scrubby
masculine
fun/funky
and of course - patchouli

I know what you mean, I would love to make a million different ones but then I would spend waaaay to much money. So I want to streamline a range. Patchouli

Good point on the lavender. It too deserves it's own category.

Strangely tho I make both lavender and patch, I HATE them both. When they are curing I hate to go into the laundry room...

Hi craftykelly....I am still in the development stage of my CP soaping career, so this is only my opinion to what I intend to do so far....

I will offer 2 completely vegan/botanical soaps - unscented or EOs
2 fun/funky bright coloured soaps with FOs
4-6 botanical soaps with added silk, either EO or FO
...as a basis for a range; other soaps will come along as I perfect them.

I really like carebear's range.....ahhh, someday......

Tanya :)

Range of Offerings

I don't sell my soaps other than to family and friends but I do have somewhat of a range that I make. I was into aromatherapy before soapmaking so my range has been based on blending two EO's:

- Cedar & Lemongrass
- Geranium & Tea Trea
- Vetiver & Ylang Ylang
- Nutmeg & Clary Sage
- Rosemary & Peppermint

I also love adding cosmetic grade clays to my soaps and that could be a line unto itself.

Here are some other ideas that I've been toying with but not yet attempted:

Regional Scents
In The Soapmaker's Companion, Susan Miller Cavitch devotes five pages to scent combinations that evoke a place, from her home state of Tennessee to Africa, China, France, Jamaica and South America. She lists EO blends for 30 global regions.

Functional Soaps
In Soothing Soaps for Healthy Skin, Sandy Maine includes chapters on antiseptic soaps, soaps for blemished skin, soaps from the garden and soothing emolient, healing soaps. Other functional soaps (not listed in the book) include a deodorizing kitchen soap and an extra scrubby soap for very dirty hands.

Other Themes
In The Handmade Soap Book by Melinda Cross, she has chapters on:
- Fruit soaps
- Floral soaps
- Honey & Beeswax soaps
- Herb & Spice soaps
- Dairy soaps

I plan on making an all nut soap soon: coconut, palm, hazelnut, almond...

So many soaps, so little time!

PS ~ This is a great list! Carebare and I think alike. I agreee that patchouli is in a category by itself!

Oh Patchouli  I hate the smell but unfortunately it is my biggest seller!
I stuck a patchouli bar in to my sample basket on the way out the door to see the retailer and she loved it! :( 400 purple patchouli bars later I still hate it!
