I dug out my old binder today. I don't think I ever made the same one twice! No actually I did, I had my favorites and best sellers. But I also did alot of experimenting. LOL I realized most of mine had 6-8 oils in them. I think I need to scale back the amount and types of oils. I think alot of my soaps were a little heavy on the coconut. I always wanted to be sure I had everything in the recommended ranges. So to get my cleansing high enough, I would use the coconut oil. What is the average amount of oils people use? Its been 4 yrs. since I've soaped, I feel like a complete newbie again! Just not terrified of the lye this time around! LOL

Depends on the recipe so the amount of fats I use varies from one recipe to the next. But on average, I use anywhere from 4-7 oils of the majority. For the castiles, bastiles, laundry, and salt bars I may use from 1-4.

My basic recipe has 4 oils and my salt bars generally have 2. I do occasionally make a specialty bar with 4-7 oils but thats usually just to use up small quantities when my bottles are nearly empty.

My go-to recipe has five oils - CO, PO, OO, castor, and whatever butter I have on hand (cocoa, mango, shea, etc.) I've done as many as 8 and as few as 3 and this is a nice happy medium for me.

My favorite combination is Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Castor Oil and either Rice Bran Oil or Olive Oil. I also like the combination of Coconut Oil, Lard and Castor Oil
