How do you even color soaps made with PO?!

My DH finally tracked down some PO for me locally, and I have to admit I was surprised at the bright orange color! Soap is in the gel stage right now and I can't even imagine trying to color this anything but dark brown...?! I am using a 'decadent' Lavender recipe for this soap, but I'm surprised that anyone would make orange colored lavender soap.....or am I just not being open minded enough? LOL Am is missing something, or did he get the wrong kind of palm oil, because for as many recipes as I've found containing palm I can't believe so many soapers would be happy with these color results! Or, do the benefits of PO outweigh the aesthetics?

That sounds like virgin PO. Makes a good soap, so I've heard. It's just orange!!

LOL I'm such a noob!! But it's all I could find, and I wanted to test it out! So now I have pumpkin colored lavender soap...how's that for natural?!

Make it a "Limited Edition" soap.

I made my first soap with virgin palm oil. The orange does fade to peach over time. Leave it in bright sunlight, maybe?

You can get deodorized, white palm oil in supermarkets under Spectrum brand (expensive!) or through Soaper's Choice/Columbus foods on line.

My second soap was with red palm oil and after that i tried to render it myself,, didn't work well but I used it anyway..

I love red palm oil! SUre isn't good for white soap but you can gets some beautiful mango colors with a small percentage of it. Once you get to above about 10% though, it is darker orange. But at about 3-5%- gorgeous!

I think I'll have to try that just for something different!
