Oh that's so weird re: Fight Club. Plus, I render my own fat and you use salt (1T per pound of fat) to render tallow from the fat!!

Good luck on all your endeavors, and thanks for the warning on Fight Club.

Hello Everyone,

When I started this thread I knew that everybody would have a nice story about how it all started. Wow! Was I right ! I have enjoyed reading every single one of them, and they keep on coming in.

It's really nice to hear from people with the same passion as you. Thank you for sharing your stories.

Here's to soapmaking,

Don't laugh to hard at me but I got interested after watching Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe when He went and made GM soap. So after much research including library books youtube vids this and a couple other forums I am going to make batch 3 this evening.

Hi Jennikate,

I did laugh when I read your posting, but not at you. I laughed because I also watched that episode (one of my favorites), and Mike Rowe never looked so good. I'm really a big fan of "Dirty Jobs" :D.

For me, it was mostly "Fight Club" by Chuck Palahniuk (full of erroneous information), and my obsessive dislike for artificial scents (or, "stink", as i tend to call it). I didn't like that the only readily-available scentless soaps at the supermarket were, like, $3 each and totally lacking in character.

Been lurking here/occasionally posting for a few months, and i kinda feel like the odd man out over here. But, my soaps have been wildly popular with coworkers and friends, mostly thanks to the info i've found here.

So, um, thank you

Hey Rob,

I think you broke one if not all of the rules of Fight Club

I use to do Jewelry and my sister made lotions and creams and M&P soap. Last fall we decided to join forces and learnt soaping together. Our joint venture only lasted 7 months before it got messy, we both had different priorities and directions we wanted to go in. I've been doing CP now since May now, and I love all the cool swirls and things I can do with it that I couldn't with HP.
My sister still does B&B but I'm only interested in soap.

not quite. i was definitely shirtless and shoeless, no one tapped out, only one man to a thread, only one thread at a time, and while i'm not to TALK about fight club, no one said i can't type about it...

haha, seriously, fight club is probably the only mainstream movie i've ever seen that features soapmaking, and even a bar of soap on the cover of the dvd. check it out, if ya haven't already.

You're funny. Although, I don't know all the quotes, the movie became more appealing to me after I started making soaps. Before that, I had thought of it as a typical guy movie (one of my boyfriend's favorites), lots of violence. Now, every time it's on, I wouldn't mind sitting through it, and Brad Pitt also helps alot.

Didn't know that the DVD had a bar of soap on the cover. Would have to check it out.

haha, yeah, the dvd shows brad in the oreground, with ed norton behind. and, brad is clutching a pink bar of soap, with the title stamped into it.

i've been tempted to do the kiss/lye tattoo, but only whilst soaping drunk. ( i cannot recommend soaping under the influence--SUI)

Hey, go for it! But, may be a tiny one in an inconspicuous area. And, take a picture please if you ever get it.
