I got myself a $10 crock pot today! It's not the prettiest but it's gonna get the job done! My mom is even in town to keep the little one out of troube! Hot process here I come!!!!!

WOOHOO!

I haven't tried hot process, but there is so much great information here, I may have to...thank you.

I soooo love this forum. I am going to do my first CPHP this weekend. Thanks, Silver Maple, for putting up the mini tute.

Ok! It's all in the Crock! I'm using pumpkin for half of my water amount and the tut said to put that in at the end of the cook, so I'm holding off. I brought it all to trace ( I know some of you don't but I did) I'm waiting for gel, and right now, It's hard as a rock, (ok, maybe not a rock, but it's not stir-able!) hope this is normal! We'll find out soon!!!

OMG!!!! I JUST posted that and went to check on it and it was coming out of the pot!!!!!! I smushed it down and turned it to low!!!! HOLY LORD! THis is crazy!!!!!

I always stir my hp soap to trace before the cook. I've never heard of not stirring to trace....how else would it properly saponify if not mixed thoroughly? In fact I think it helps with hp if you bring the soap to a thick thick trace (like pudding consistency)...it helps to keep the soap from separating, however if it does you can stick blend it back together again.

Alright Folks, I did it, but not completly sucessfully! I cooked it, but it never got completly clear. It stayed kinda chunky and dry. I zap tested it and it had no zap so I figured it was because of only having half the water. Since there was no zap I pulled it off the heat and added the pumpkin and mixed like crazy, this is what I got! It smells great, and well, I wont lie, I've already taken one out of the mold and tried it and it sudz up great, but it's chunky. What's the deal? Everyone says HP is so smooth, why isn't mine?? Should I have cooked it longer??

For hp I've always added the food before the cook. Puree for half the water is probably a bit too much...try only 1 oz puree ppo, and add it at trace before the cook. The natural sugars that are in the foods will actually help you get a smoother soap, and more lather if it goes through the cook.

Half the water amount in pumpkin sounds like a lot to me. I use about 1 oz ppo puree as well. I add my pumpkin after the oil and lye solution is mixed together but before it comes to trace. My pumpkin soap always traces fast.

I've never had my soap come out of the pot and it's always been stir-able. So I can't help you there.

I'd say that if there was no zap and it works like soap, your first batch was a success!

Oh, hot process is not as smooth as cp. It has a more rustic texture. I have to spoon mine into the mold. You can try adding sodium lactate to smooth it out and sometimes adding water at 40% helps. However, adding more water usually means it won't be hard as fast and sometimes the bars can get mis-shapen (sp?) as they dry out.

Ok! I did so much because I wanted it as orange as possible. I added it after the cook because that's what the tutitorial on page one of this post said to do. But I'll try it your way! I"m up for anything! Yes, it's soap, but not pretty soap! My mind wants to try again tonight but my body is so tired I don't know if I'm up for it! We'll see how it goes!

He everyone.
IM new at making soap.
Ive tried making crock pot soap before, but haven't really succeeded.
The only time i did, the fragrance was completely off from what it initially should have been.
I really did enjoy making the soap, I would just like to actually accomplish a good batch LOL
Does anyone know of any good recipes for crock pot soap that doesn't use too many different oils?
Thank you all :)

I have a question about hot process and haven't found an answer to this so far.

I want to make soap tomorrow using cucumber puree. In CP, I usually add the puree at trace and at that moment in time, the mix is cooler than it would be with HP.

The CP soap I have made this way with the cucumber ends up having a nice scent, with very little FO needed to help it.

So the question I have is this. When does puree get added to HP soap and would my scent be altered by the cooking method. I know FO's hold up with a need for less of them in HP, but I didn't know if the cook would produce a different result in the end product than I am used to.

SB soap to trace, add colouring (if you don't want to swirl), then let it cook out til no zap, then add you other additives like your puree. You could always take a little soap out of the pot mix it with the puree first, that will probably help it to mix it in. I haven't used puree, but if I was going to that is how I would do it.

Jarvan,

I don't know about anyone else, but I did have some issues with mold with adding certain food additives after the cook, that is why I add all my purees etc at trace.

If you want to soap cooler at the beginning with hp that is just fine, it will just take a bit longer to cook. Also if you cook on low, the temps will not get any higher than they would in regular gel stage in cp anyway so this may work for you.

Suzyy,

What oils do you have on hand? If you are not opposed to using animal fats here is a very basic simple one:

50% lard
30% olive
20% coconut

Hi Everyone! I'm a Newbie! LOL

A great lady referred me here, she just gave me a recipe for HP. I was wondering how (I bought a wooden mold) people make the soap look textured with the swirls and those awesome country looks to the soap? Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you everyone, I so look forward to learning from all you pros out there!

Suzanne
[email protected] if anyone is willing to e-mail some ideas

I think, it is VERY difficult to acheive the swirls with HP. Maybe an expert will chime in here.
