I sure did! This column definitely has a good long list of things that didn't work:
  • Don't use only evaporated milk for water instead of half evaporated milk/half water.[/*:m:31q9cmu8]
  • Don't soap gm at high temps (did 90º for my third batch, and it worked like a charm).[/*:m:31q9cmu8]
  • Don't use too much honey (spiked the temp.; reduced it to 1 T from 2 T); there is already sugar from the gm to contend with.[/*:m:31q9cmu8]
  • If you're not having good results with a log mold, try a tray mold.[/*:m:31q9cmu8]
 
Hi, everyone... I am new to this site. I am very interested in making soap using canned Goat's Milk and reading this post about using canned Goat's Milk to make soap. I am wondering if you freeze the Evaporated Goat's milk right out of the can or do you dilute the canned Goat's Milk first BEFORE freezing? If you dilute it first BEFORE freezing, do you use tap water? .. or distilled water? Also, Do you dilute it using HALF the water recommended or mix it with ALL the water recommended? I believe the 12 ounce can says to use 12 ounces of water. It doesn't say WHAT kind of water to use. (distilled, spring, tap??)
Sorry, if this question should be placed in the regular forum... I wasn't sure!

Hi there!

If you are using evaporated goat milk, it is recommended that you use half goat milk and half water. So if SoapCalc recommends you use, for example, 300 g of water, then you would use 150 g of water and 150 g of evaporated goat milk. Prepare your lye in the 150 g water only. Then add the 150 g goat milk to the oils instead of the lye and water. When the lye and water is ready, you add it to the oils and goat milk, then proceed as you would with any soap.

I always used distilled water when I use water.
