So I am making honey soap ;) Any suggestions for insulation?????

PS..... I have been without a computer for 5 days and I am literally starving for attention, LOL!!!! Missed reading this board!

My only advice is to not over insulate. The honey will heat up the soap plenty. Oh and it smells AWFUL...like ammonia (not sure if that was the goats milk or the honey...but ACK!)...and then after resting some, it smells like batter or sweet dough.

I love honey soap :D

Thanks so much, I can't wait to see how it turns out...... I used some EO's in it, I am so praying for the perfect batch :) So far all but 2 batches of my soap have passed...... But I am wanting the soap that makes you wanna take a bite! LOL

Have you tried making honey soap with no fragrance? It smells really nice, like Bit O Honey candy.

Go really slow and be prepared to babysit your soap.

My first batch of honey soap volcanoed all over my kitchen, I mean everywhere. Foamy, soft, HOT, gooey, honey smelling soap. I swear, that soap expanded to at least 6 times to volume when it blew up.

I cried for a few minutes, scooped up what I could and left the rest for a couple hours to cool down, then I scraped it up the remains with a putty knife. Thankfully it only covered the table and floor, both were no worse for the wear.

It came out real crumbly, so I re batched it and it is starting to harden BUT still crumbly, am I at a loss here.....

I just had an explosion, I am gonna share.....

I've only ever made goat milk, oatmeal & honey soap and put it into individual moulds, no gel and no problems. I added the honey to the caustic mix (after the last of the frozen milk had thawed and combined with the sodium hydroxide) and it turned bright orange and heated up furiously, let it cool down and proceeded. The colour toned down (heaps) in the soap and the fragrance of the organic honey came through.

thanks :)

that is also how much I add, but it always seems to be not quite enough for the smell to come through nicely. And I don't use FOs...
maybe I'll add some beeswax next time to support the smell

the first time though it was truly awful--bright orange, ammonia smell, took a year before it smelled good! but then was lovely. For orange soap.

Im suprised the smell comes through? i may have to try, but scared to have a volcano!
