Hi,
Was wondering if anyone uses manuka honey in their soaps or body lotions?
I wanted to put in my body lotions but don't know if I can use a preservative with it. It states it has active ingredients and i didn't know if the preservative would kill it/
thanks.

I use it in a couple of products, in soap there is no issue since there is no preservative. I don't use it in my lotions or creams so I can't answer you on that.....

I've also used Beechwood honey in soaps without issue... Now what the lyes do to the active ingredients in the honey I can't say.....

ETA - the only reason I use it in my soaps is for label appeal - I live in a very granola area..... :D

thanks so much! I will give the soap a try. I was just confused when they said the honey was active if i was killing anything in it with a preservative.
Thanks.

honey on its own doesn't need a preservative, but if you dilute it by putting it in a lotion or such you will ABSOLUTELY need a preservative - the honey will not preserve anything!

I have used Manuka honey in lotion at 3-5% with Liquid Germall Plus as my preservative. I think by active ingredients they mean the enzymes present in honey? Regardless, the actives would not benefit your lotion because the purpose of honey is purely as a humectant. I do not use honey any longer simply because I am too paranoid about it being bug food. I use glycerin and honeyquat and my lotion has even better humectant properties and a lovely consistency. HTH!

We have a local beekeeper who puts honey in everything he makes / sells. There's very little added (too much would make the products sticky...) It's a great label claim!

What does honey add to lotion? And yes I should have added that lotions always need preservative, I'm always saying it and got myself off-track this time....
