Just being devil's advocate, but why couldn't this just be a honey/baking soda washing paste? Oh, did I make something up there? Hehe. Wondering because then you could eliminate the chance of a lye/baking soda reaction and keep the ingredients that are supposed to work.

I made that last week and was thinking what a great invention...

The first day it was nice to use. (Y'all should try it) The second day the baking soda started to react to the sugars in the honey and got yucky foam on it. I still used it but it wasn't near as nice as the first day.

:?: What is the most amount of honey ppo you would use?

Did the soap turn out a little scrubby?
No, since I dissolve it first in water it's not scrubby. I made this soap for a gal who had major surgery and at her doctor's rec she was washing with a commercial baking soda soap. She asked me to make some for her so I did. I don't think there's anything special about it.

I don't believe there any any type of lye/baking soda reaction since both are bases. If anything you might want to increase your lye discount. (I use a 9%.)

The more I think about this I would guess the doctor had your friend using the baking soda as an exfoliant. I don't think it's really necessary in the soap.

When my son was a teenager the soap that helped his (mild) acne the most was my oatmeal & honey soap. The oatmeal was very finely ground (and sifted==oat flour) so it wasn't too scrubby but it was mildly exfoliating.
