Hi,
I am new to Soap and Candle making. The first time i saw a designed/handmade soap was in Flagstaff AZ at PJ Chillcottage.
I have been wanting to make it a hobby since then but never followed through with it. I have a friend that started candle making and i have done it once, and had a blast. Just got all my candle making supplies last week, and im working on some soap supplies.
Hope to learn alot of fun things from this forum.

Colleen

Welcome to the forum :)

What kind of soap are you looking to make? Cold Process, Hot Process, Melt and Pour?

There are a lot of tutorials and a lot of info here. We love answering questions when we can, so don't be afraid to ask.

Hi Genny !
i think im going to start out with Melt and Pour. I bought a book "the soap makers companion" that i got in yetserday too. i still have to read up on each type to learn about them.
I like the Glycerine soaps that i saw at PJ but i think i need designer verticle insert molds for those, and i cant seem to find any that arrnt just heart, and star basic shapes.
I have seen a bunch of neat pictures on Flickr (i think the group is handmadesoaps).
very cool, this could keep me busy for a while ! :D
very nice to meet you !

Are they these kind of soaps?

The equipment they use to make those big embeds like that is pretty pricey.

If you're not going to be doing A LOT at one time, you could always use cookie cutters. Those usually can be found pretty cheap.

Wholesale Supplies Plus has a variety of tube molds. I've never used those molds, I usually do the cookie cutter thing or I cut out the shapes myself.

yep, those are the ones.
they had an article about a field trip there, and it showed the molds etc. very cool stuff. but i agree with you, they look pretty expensive for just personal, friends and family hobby.
I like your idea about the cutters and the tube molds, that would work really well. and that place is right down the street from the new building that my place of employment is moving to in June ! :D
thank you so much for the advice :)
