Just wanted to say HI!! :D

I'm Amy. I am from Indiana...any other Indiana members here?
I work part time in retail (Walmart). Although its normally full time during the holidays, which is fine, extra $$ is always a good thing!

I have had Nubian dairy goats since 2006...started out with one and I now have 10....with 6 hopefully due to kid this year....They started out as just pets/show animals...just a for fun sort of deal but as I improved my herd and want to show more and the herd has grown, they are quite expensive to care for so I was thinking perhaps I can do something productive with the milk. It's illegal to sell the milk in Indiana. My mother does not like milk at all, I like goat milk but not cow's milk. However I don't drink very much milk anyways so I have all this milk. LOL

I normally get a bucket calf or some piglets and raise them up on the GM and resell them...But I want to try something different this year...I've made GM soap before, just not very much or many times! So I'm hoping I can learn lots on this forum.

Welcome Amy! How wonderful to have your own goats! I use goat milk in my soaps alot, but not fresh from my backyard like you can (I wish!). The freshest I can get is either the fresh Meyenberg in the cold case at my local grocery store, or farm-fresh from Trader Joes (can't remember which farm, though). I love to drink it and soap with it.

I saw a baby Nubian at only a day or two old and I fell in love with them....thinking back over the years, if I knew how much work was involved with the dairy goats, I probably would have rethought this and maybe wouldn't even have them....but now, going to the shows, spending the time with good friends, makes it worth the work. I just wish it didn't cost so much to keep a herd! LOL

Hi Amy,
