First of all, thank you. There's an enormous amount of great information here, and I've been lurking unregistered and reading a ton over the last week or so, taking notes and bookmarking interesting links.

I haven't cracked open the lye container for the first time yet, but I think that'll be happening sometime next week, if all goes well and I feel comfortable enough by then. I tend to want to read, read some more, then read a few more times whenever I'm trying something new, even though I'm dying to get started.

Besides my relatively new addiction to handmade soaps, which is what led me to want to make my own, I'm a betta fanatic. I've kept, bred, and adored betta splendens for quite a while now, so I guess that makes me a fishnut with soapnut tendencies? I also love to read and play around on the computer, and I'm a bit of a tech nerd at times.

Above and beyond everything else, though, I'm a mom and wife. I love my family, and am so very proud of my son, who's 7 years old. I homeschool him, so that keeps our days pretty busy, but it's working out great for us. Along with my husband and son, our family includes two cats, Kimi and Mika, and a silly golden retriever named Murphy, who just turned a year old yesterday.

Anyway, that's my long-winded intro. Thanks for having me, and I look forward to getting to know the people here, and to learning a lot from you experienced soapers.

Welcome - I hope you love it here, the people here are great.

Quick question what made you choose your dogs name?

Welcome! Have fun soaping. Your kids are gonna love it! I've got a 5 yo and a 3 yo at home, and they absolutely LOVE that I make our soap. They're always so excited to sniff it when it's done, and they inevitably say, "MMMMMMM, that's YUMMY!" Kids are so great for self-esteem ;-)

Hi, Roy. We didn't have any idea what to name him at first, but the more we looked at him, the more he just seemed like a Murphy. There wasn't any one thing that made us say, "ah-ha!", it just seemed to suit him.

This is Murph, taken yesterday:
