Hi everybody. I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Patti. I'm married and have one dog named Milla. I'm 36 and live just outside of Minneapolis, MN. I've been married for 13 years and love it. I have already posted a collection of my beginner soaps in the photographs section, but realized I should introduce myself first!

I started thinking about soap making after I got laid off from my job as an environmental engineer a few months ago. My husband was always interested in learning how to make soap and since I had the time I thought I would do it! I already make my own wine and jewelry, so what's another hobby! I have a minor in chemisty so mixing and creating is right up my alley!

I started with CP blender recipes and couldn't believe how much fun it was. For my last experiment I put my mold in the oven for 2 hours and I couldn't believe the difference. In 1 to 2 weeks my soap was ready to use! I'm hooked. Next step is HP because I want to experiment with fragrances that I can't use in CP. I have not mastered CP by any means. I just tried a swirl and failed miserably!

Everyone seems so nice on this forum and I'm glad that my husband found this place for me.

Welcome Patti!

Sorry about your layoff. Be aware that once your full blown soaping addiction kicks in you might forget that you ever were an engineer!! :D

It's great to have you here!

The soaping addiction has already kicked in. I think about soap recipes constantly. I'm checking books out from the library and each one has different ideas that get me thinking more. It's amazing at how I can create different types of moisturizing soaps or creamy soaps, etc. My head hurts!

Ha! My husband found this place for me, too! That's weird!!

Welcome - by the way, your first soaps were absolutely awesome!!

I'm new too, and this is a great place to learn because there are really helpful, nice people here.

Janet, that's too funny that your husband found this site too! Mine travels a lot and wanted to make sure I had stuff to do while he was gone so he found a bunch of forums for me. This is the only one I look at though.

Thank you for your compliments. I have so much fun making soap. I'm on a super tight budget so I have to be creative with what I have! I have dreams of making really pretty pink and purple soaps but just don't have a clue yet! Technique first I guess! Now I just need to find people to share my soaps with. My family seems scared of them. I keep telling them that they are so much better than commercial soaps!

Welcome, Milla
So glad you have joined us. Your soaps are lovely. Guess you know we love pictures!

I will say that the forum can be as addicting as the soapmaking. I can guarantee that your husband will be pleased to come home to new soaps.

My advice? get a few extra soap dishes- ones with suction cups so you can add them to your shower walls. Most of us like to have several going at the same time- can't wait to try the newest one- have fun exploring- this is way more fun than chem lab!
