I've been making cold process soap for a couple of years now and I am ready to start selling. I have some local retail shops carrying some items on consignment and have created a web store. I'm here hoping that someone can help me out with driving traffic to my site. I've got a page for my business on facebook and twitter. I have also placed ads on several free online ad sites. Any other ideas?

Thanks from a new crafter.

Welcome to the forum. :D

I can't answer your questions but I'm sure someone else will be along to help you out. Have you searched on the General Business Forum for more info?

Hi, thanks for at least reading my post. Yes, I have been looking thru the other categories on the forum and may have found a couple of ideas to help. Thanks again for letting me know someone actually is out there listening.

I was wondering if you would check out my web site and give me some feedback. I've had several other lay people look at it and they have said they were impressed and found it very well laid out and easy to use. I would like the opinion of someone in the business to give me unbiased critique. link below. Thanks for your help. I know I need to buy a domain to get rid of the extra stuff in my domain to make it easier to remember, but for starters I thought this would be alright. What do you think?

Very nice site. I like the Plain Jane soap. The name of it amused me.

I'm not an expert on web sites. I should also add that I'm not selling so everything I say is just my opinion. I like the simplicity of yours and it's easy to navigate. I especially liked the "Did you know" on the home page and the section on how to care for the soap to make it last longer.

I also think it's good how you worded your descriptions. You're educating people on what essential oils have been used for but you're not making claims about your soaps.

Also, congratulations on selling them at retail locations. :D

These are just suggestions. You might want to consider listing the weight of the bars. For example, the lemongrass soap is $4. I'd add a weight range which stated something like Weight 4.0-4.2 oz. Just so people know approximately what they're getting.

Also, have you considered adding clays or herbal powders to your soaps? Not only would they color your soaps but you'd also have the benefits from them.

Last month, I made a CP batch and added rose hip powder to it. I tried to swirl it but since I'm lousy at it, it looked more like blobs. Anyway, it added a pink coloration throughout the soap but it also provided a very light exfoliation.

I know other people use french green clay for oily complexions. Clay helps make the soap a little harder and I've heard it also helps to keep the scent.

Also, I wondered about the price on your whipped sugar scrub. $5.99 seems a little low for 9 oz. But if you're making a profit, then it's a great price!

But like I said, I'm not an expert and these are just my thoughts after looking at your site. I hope this helps you a little.

Nice job on the site! The only recommendation I would make: some of your soaps' descriptions claim moisturizing properties; I would re-word that is in some way to imply that the soap is good for dry skin or that it won't cause a drying effect. Reason being, if you claim soap does anything othr than clean the body, it falls into the cosmetics category vis-a-vis the FDA... and that is a whol eother mess you don't want to deal with :)
