Hi!

As an introduction, I'm Candice, and from NY. I started to get really interested in making soap after I used my first bar of handmade soap <3 Unfortunately she was no longer in the soap making business, and then I discovered the Internet's wonderful world of soap makers!

I've recently decided to start making and selling soap in my spare time. I thought it would be pretty simple... but the more I explore this forum, I think I could be in over my head :(

Only one way to find out, right?

Welcome to the forum. You're not in over your head, you're just overwhelmed with information. Forget about selling and fancy techniques for now and start at the beginning. Decide what kind of soap you would like to make. Many people start with M&P, it's a great introduction into the soaping world and is a great way to satisfy the artistic side of a soaper while you learn the basics of CP & HP. Lots of research is the key and the soapers here are very helpful with questions and concerns. Keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks for the response!

I am starting with M&P. Mainly because it's probably the easiest, and I have limited space in a co-op to be doing CP. I've done a few test recipes and am tweaking. I need some advice, which I'll probably ask in the main soap forum.

I'm really looking forward to this forum :)

Welcome to the wonderful world of soaping! You're going to have so much fun :) And I agree that you don't need to worry about selling or all of the technical stuff yet. Just enjoy making and using (and sharing) your soaps. That's the best part anyway!

Hello and welcome from Australia Candice! I started with MP (still make it now) and learned what I liked in my soaping additives. Then I joined this forum and read every single post!!! I learned so much and found out things I didn't even know I needed to know  It didn't take me very long to feel confident enough to start CP and now I am so totally addicted

Soap making is really easy as long as you take the proper precautions when handling the lye and your raw soap batter, and organise your workspace so everything you plan on adding to your batch is within reach (you don't want to leave out your fragrance by mistake!)

Tanya :)

Well, I'm from Long Island, but I'm currently living in Queens with my boyfriend. I dream of the day of moving out of NY, it's too cold!! Brr.

As for soaping.. omg, I've already made a few test batches of MP, and I can't take enough showers to test them all out before I make more!! haha
