So I made a batch of cold process soap Saturday and went to cut it tonight and this is what I found...what is this? Is the soap ok? ImageUploadedBySoap Making1390876864.907521.jpgImageUploadedBySoap Making1390876885.382667.jpg

It looks like soda ash to me. If it doesn't zap it is harmless and can be steamed off or trimmed away.

So as long as it doesn't zap it should be ok to use after curing? Thanks for the help!

Yep, no zap and you are good to go! You can plane of the roughness and soda ash if you want to pretty them up or leave it be as it is just cosmetic.

One of my castiles had that. It is perfectly okay to use and just cosmetic.

Looks like it may have overheated a bit and has ash. You can either spray the tops with 91% alcohol or steam the ash off if you don't like it. Or just embrace it. Zap test it and if no zap you are good to go. I think it looks kind of cool.

Thank you!
