I have a few questions about soap making. I want to make my own wipe solution cubes and was wondering what you thought the best melt and pour base soap would be. I need something all-natural with no chemicals and something every baby could use (sensitive and hypoallergenic). I want to add Tea Tree Oil or coconut oil too. Those would be my base ingredients then I would add other essential oils depending on the use or the preference.

I want to learn how to make my own soap. Do you know of a detailed tutorial that is a good one? I've also heard that a melt and pour base might not be the best for a little one's hinny. What do you think? What would be an good recipe to use on a wipe? Is it okay that it doesn't get rinsed off? THank you so much!! -Heather-

Welcome!

If you are looking for something that is all natural with no chemicals, then it's not soap as all soap (both M&P and CP) is made with sodium hydroxide, and that's a chemical.

There are lots of tutorials on youtube. Try the ones hosted by Brambleberry/Soap Queen.

A site with basic information for the beginner is www.millersoap.com

I'm not sure what a wipe solution cube is. Could you explain further?

RE

A wipe solution cube is a small little cube of soap or whatever that you mix with a cup of hot water and put in a spray bottle for use with cloth wipes for cloth diapering. So I want something that is going to be okay to use on baby's bottom.

for my baby i just make pure olive oil liquid soap and dilute it significantly, then soak my wipes in the solution and stick it in the wipe warmer (which has been amazing to have). never heard of the cube approach!

also just a few more thoughts. if it's going on your baby's skin, you shouldn't use a fragrance or essential oil. olive oil makes arguably the most gentle bar and liquid soap. i love my pure olive oil soaps and so far they have been great for my baby's skin. it's also incredibly easy to formulate. put the numbers in soap calc (soapcalc.net) and plug in olive oil as your only oil. for making liquid soap, you'll want to read up a lot more about soapmaking before attempting that.

You also can't have an unpreserved solution sitting around. Mold and bacteria can grow in soapy water. The potential for damage from that is much higher than from a properly preserved product.

And considering that everything in existence ( with the possible exception of the soul) is comprised of chemicals - good luck with chemical free.

It is impossible to have a soap without chemicals. Water is a chemical. Anything natural will also be a chemical.
