I'm new to cold process soap making and have made two batches of cupcakes that have turned out an awesome shape etc but my recipe isn't white enough and when ever I try to colour them they turn out funny colours. Would anyone be kind enough to share a white recipe with me?

Thanks

What types of oils are you using? EVOO can leave a yellow tint to your soaps when a lighter colored regular OO will not. The whitest bar I make is a combo of regular OO, Wal-Mart GV Shortening (don't use if you are not into tallow, but it makes great soap), Coconut Oil and Castor Oil. Also, Lard makes a very white soap. Oh, and my 100% regular OO soap was very white, but it requires a very very long cure...I didn't like it at all until about 5 or 6 months of cure. Now it's amazing.

I made a batch with OO, CO, PO, castor oil & coconut cream which turned out pretty close to pure white. Soap did not gel, I think this factor makes a big difference in the color of the soap

EVOO can result in soap that's greenish
canola, soybean, avocado safflower, sunflower, (maybe apricot & peach kernel?), cocoa butter - yellowish
hemp - greenish (or yellowish)
shortening/crisco - pinkish
olive pomace, unrefined shea butter - taupish (barely)

there are lots of "what oils make white soap?" threads, but in a nutshell:
coconut, babassu, palm kernel oil, palm oil, castor oil, lard, tallow, olive (regular), mango butter, almond (I am told), kokum

not sure about: grapeseed, pumpkinseed, cottonseed

remember, though - that the impact on the color is related to the proportion in your formula...

Grapeseed will also render a greenish tint.
