I found some adorable bunny silicone molds and I would like to make some carrot puree novelty soaps for the holiday along with a log mold of it for the rest of the year.

1. Do I just subtract the water from the puree? (Meaning, if the recipe calls for 16oz of water and I use 3oz of puree, do I make it 13oz water 3oz puree?)
2. When to add it? I do hot process. I know CP you add at trace, but should I add before or after cooking for HP?
3. Anything else I should know about working with purees?

Thanks!

Carrot makes a yellow color with cp. Idk much about HP. But you do need to do a water discount but idk how it would work with hp

Thank you! I'm okay with a yellow color since these are spring-y soaps anyway :) For reference, I can use the exact same recipes with HP that you can with CP, the difference is saponification happens before molding, not during ^^ So I'm assuming it's okay to add at trace. I hope. lol.

Miss Brenda did a soap w a carrot puree swirl (I will try to find the link and post it), but I don't think she used quite that much! Yes, for HP you would use a full water amount, subtract the amount of puree you want to use from the water amount, but I would add the puree after the cook and thoroughly incorporate it right before you mold.

Isn't it better to cook it, though, so it doesn't go bad quite as fast?

I think to cook the carrots is to soften it up so that you will not get lumpy puree. Carrot is hard before cooking. I remember a discussion somewhere. LOL.

Show us your cute rabbits once done.

Can you add shredded, uncooked carrot to a recipe..CP or HP? What about ripe, mashed bananas? Can that be added to CP or will it not be cooked enough during the process and make the soap go bad?

I am not that sure. But I think it can be done. If fresh herbs can be used in soaping, I believe fresh vegetables can too.

There are already people adding mash bananas into soap recipes. Maybe some of the fellow soapies here did. See if they can advise you more.

I make a carrot facial bar and just subtract the amount of carrot you want o use from your water amount. I oven hot process so I just mix lye/milk and then add the carrot, combine the oils/lye mixture to trace and toss in the oven. I cannot keep these bars on my shelf.

Nope, don't need to cook it with the soap, just use jarred baby food pureed carrots and it will be fine.

1) Yes. If you're going to add that much puree, it's best to subtract some of your water.
2) With HP, I always add it before cooking so the lye can react with the puree.
3) Make sure your puree is fully pureed & contain no large chunks. So if you're using a hard vegetabe/fruit, it's easiest if you cook them first to be able to puree it thin enough.
