Hi,
I am a Newbie and am looking for a soap recipe suitable for sensitive skin and nut allergies. This is my 1st attempt. So I also need ingredients that are easy to source and not overly expensive!
I am looking forward to getting started.
Many thanks
bella

Hi bella,
Welcome to the forum.
People with sensitive skin often like a castille (100% olive oil) or bastille, (could be 15-20% coconut & the rest olive oil).
You can search for more info about castille & bastille on the forum. The search function will give you a lot of information; many questions have been done & answered before.
With this site you can make your own recipes:

I agree with dagmar.....an olive oil soap would probably be your best bet....if you're really sensitive, I would do with a creamier lather and forgo the coconut oil.

Find the least expensive olive oil you can......I use pomace but also pure is easy to work with. Extra virgin takes too long to trace to mess with IMHO.

Olive is going to give you your gentlest soap - unlike others I do use Extra Virgin..... we are all going to have our preferences and I know most people do soap with Pomice....either way you are going to have a wonderful soap.... :D

what do you consider a nut?
(not counting some of the folks here :? )

I just ordered Babassu oil to try some recipes without coconut. It doesn't fill your requirements for inexpensive and easily sourced but you can get it online and from everything I read it is a great substitute for those allergic to coconut.

Hi,
Thanks for your help! Coconut is fine, but almond oil & macadamia nut oil are out. I can't wait to get started! We are experiencing a heat wave at the moment (I'm in Sydney Australia), will that effect my batch? Or am I better waiting for it to pass?
Thanks again
Bella

I have very sensitive skin. Castile soap is your best bet for gentle, easy to make, cheap and accessible!

I think it will always be my most favorite soap...to make that is. It's just so dadgum easy to deal with and quick to trace, harden and such!

I'm not sure what was meant by the product melting... Did you mean that the solid oils might melt without having to heat them? Then that's a good thing in my opinion.

Anyway, if it's super hot you may have some difficulty with your soap overheating, but I doubt it. Just insulate very lightly if at all.

@carebear: The OP said they were experiencing a heat wave (@OP, o by the way I love Sydney in the summer) so any butters/oils that are in solid state, that are ship during the summer months have the tendency to melt from temperature changes (climate)...It won't effect the quality of the product.
