I too scrape out as much as possible using a pretty hard, double-sided silicone spatula thingy, and into individual molds for my use or samples. I waste very little soap batter.

Then I put as many utensils, smaller cups, etc. into the main pot and let it sit about 24 hours. Then into the sink with a little dishwashing liquid, let it dissolve a while, then hand-wash everything but the glass and plastic paint containers, which go into the dishwasher.

Me too! There seems to be a lot of soap left on the dishes in that picture so maybe that's the problem. Scrap as much out as you can and put in individual molds then it should be super easy to wipe or wash out within a day.

I think it was missed where I posted I usually do scrape like crazy.. But this time I wasn't in the mood to do samples and didn't want a 'top' on the soap. That's why I had so much left and decided to try this method in the first place. :)

The soaking worked well but was a bit too time consuming for me. Lol
Next time I'll likely scrape to the garbage and then wash if I have this much left. Although I usually need do.

That was part of the 'sitting' method I did wrong. I assumed wrong that it would
Sort of peel off and why people liked it.

I take used cleaning rags to wipe down the excess soap on my soaping utensils so there is only a thin film on them. Then when I clean a load of rags in the wash, they are already soap-impregnated and good to go.

I make my soap in empty coconut & palm oil pails, so I put all my utensils in the pail, put it in an used bath tub, run hot water in it and let it sit. The next day I take them out and all the soapy bits are gone. Then I wash them in a dedicated dish pan. I dump all my water in the snow. We are ever-protective of our septic system.

If I have extra soap I keep a small silicon mold handy and pour it in the mold for smaller soaps (butterflies, owls, etc). But i do try to "lick the batter clean" so that way clean up the next day is quicker, just soak then scrub.
