That’s understandable. I make stuff for myself and a few friends. I have made bars from recipes I found on Swift Crafty Monkey, Humblebee and Me, DIY Bath and Body. All very reputable people. My hair hated all of them. After a lot of research and experimenting I came up with something usable. I’m still experimenting.
I subscribed briefly last year to Swift's site, to see what her syndet formulas are like nowdays; they're radically different from what she was promoting 10-12 years ago, and are now far too harsh for me. It seems like she's trying to follow a trend? And some of her advice & suggestions now just didn't make sense.

Experimenting for yourself is always smart.

I have been a subscriber for many years and just recently changed my level to the $3 per month as I am no longer using her site much. The more I experiment with her formulas the less I like them. My hair is very oily so adding a bunch of oil/conditioning agents to a shampoo bar doesn’t make sense to me.
I have made a bunch of her lotions and prefer the DIY BB formulas.
SCM was good for me while I was learning. I’m not a chemist and the chemistry is generally over my head but it was good for learning what each ingredient adds to the formula. The site is hard to navigate and that’s definitely a consideration. The two things I like least are her rants, which appear often and her references to the number of words in a document when many of the words have nothing to do with the topic. I don’t mean to bash her as there is some good information but it’s sometimes hard to get through.

I know what you mean.. she's always been easily distracted, but now that she's got some serious health problems, that's got to make everything more difficult for her. I don't know if I'd have continued with the site, in her place.

She's a great starting point for people though, and better to begin with someone science minded than not

Absolutely.
Some of the info “out there” is just plain scary.
