Hi! My name is Amy, as you might have guessed from my username :)

I've wanted to make soap for a long time and finally decided, with my wedding in late April coming up, to get my butt in gear. I want to make soap for the wedding favors (4oz bars with a simple strip label with our wedding information on it, inside simple paper bags with a matching thank you note stapled to it - it's a DIY backyard wedding, keeping it simple and fun).

I'm hoping to be good at it and have time to get the recipe I want to make perfect in time! Still looking for just the right one, probably cold process, honey oatmeal.

I can't wait to get into the wealth of information on this forum and site!

Hi from another Amy :)

Congrats on the upcoming date! Have you made any soap yet? It is hard to find that "special one" recipe, I'm still not there either. Have fun reading and experimenting :)

Thank you! I haven't made any soap yet. I'm working on getting a supply list written up and learning the basics still. I'm hoping to start this week :)

Welcome,
You've come to the right place to learn. Take your time learning though, don't rush it.
If I were planning an April wedding, and hadn't yet made CP, I think I might go with an MP for the event. It can take years to get a good CP recipe.
Good luck to you.

Hi Amy,

If you haven't made soap before, go to www.millersoap.com There is a wealth of information there. Her Castille II recipe is very reliable and is a nice soap and has only five ingredients. I don't think you have to have the "perfect" recipe to give soap out at your DIY wedding. But do start experimenting now. The soap will need at least a month to cure and you want to make sure that you like it. You also may want to experiment with some different fragrances. Using real honey, if you want to do honey oatmeal, requires experience and the honey smell will be very faint when you're done. You might do better with a quality fragrance oil.

Happy soaping and congratulations on your upcoming marriage!

Judy
