I am 16 and am going to start soap making soon! :)

I have wanted to make soap for a few years but have not been able to since I have been sick for the last five years. My family is now getting on a diet that is helping us get better.

For the last few days I have been reading online about soap making and am waiting to get books in at the library. After I read some books (and save some money) I am going to start soap making!

Hi Rachel,

Welcome to the forum!

I'm sorry to hear you've been ill but it's good that you and your family are getting better. There's lots of information on the forum which I'm sure you will find useful.

You can start making soap inexpensively by using oils from the grocery and a milk carton for a mold. The only thing you might find hard to find is lye. My first batch was unscented and I used coconut oil and olive oil that I got from the grocery. However, I did use shea butter which I had ordered online.

Good luck and don't be shy about asking questions.

Thank you so much! I read that I might be able to get lye at a hardware store and we have several so I am going to start looking really soon!
