Hi, my name is Emma and I'm a complete soap novice. I've thought about making my own soaps for a while as I developed a reaction to SLS and had to stop using all those fancy soaps (not to mention I've got all this stuff I can't use!) and have been using purchased handmade SLS free CP soaps from a local lady. However this week I discovered that my salt scrub (which has done nothing short of miracles for my acne) is discontinued and started looking around at how to make something similar. I found a site which sells soap making products and got looking around, that got me thinking "I can make soaps as gifts!" and the hunt for inspiration and guidance has begun.

I'm currently studying at a residential college and am planning on spending my boring weekends making some M&P soap (when I get around to purchasing) so I can have some ready by Christmas time... also I finish at the end of November so I have 2 or so months free to play around with my hopeful new hobby.

Hi Emma nice to see you here., I am new to this board as well and it is a lovely place to be :D Soapmaking is very addictive indeed I have done about 20 logs in the last three weeks and I have to show real constrant when it comes to unmolding as I just want to cut right into them. I dont have much experience with M&P Soap but I have seen some beautiful creations come from it.........................Lyn from Brisbane

Thanks for the warm welcomes :D I've now got an idea in my head about using a M&P shaving soap base and making a bar instead of a scrub... but I'll keep on thinking about it, scrub is probably better on the skin than a real foamy soap.

artisan soaps, I wouldn't dream of adding SLS to anything, but a certain 'fancy soap' company I use to use put it in almost everything (as we all know) and my skin reacted to that so now I have all this useless soap. But making my own I can add what I like and make special batches for friends etc... I can see myself easily becoming addicted.
