'Lo All, I'm FMP from Sydney (originally from NZ) & thought I'd better introduce myself before I forget :D

I'm completely new to soap making, I haven't had a chance to make any yet. Though I had enrolled in 2 soap making classes but unfortunately both were cancelled for various reasons :(

I've managed to read a few books on soap making but I would prefer to actually see it being made with my own eyes so I know exactly what I'm doing & not just winging it.

Are there any youtube video's or video tutorials that anyone would recommend?

Is it better to watch some tutorials first or just dive right in & give it a go?

Thanks in advance - FMP

Hi FMP, where were the classes in Sydney that were cancelled? I have a friend that wants to learn but I'm no where near her to teach her. I'd do a bit of research and lots and lots of reading - plenty of info here - before diving in.
Lots to know and take lots of notes, lots of notes.

Hiya FMP. This forum is a plethora of information. The search function has become my friend and I can easily spend an hour or two reading the threads in the first page or two of results.

I love to look at porportions, then look at what I have available, and create my own. TBH, I accidentally threw out my sheet with the info for my last batch  So I likely won't be able to recreate that without a lot of playing.

Books are great - The Soapmaker's Companion and The Everything Soapmaking Book - I have both and love both of them. Very very chock full of info. Just make sure you run ALL recipes, no matter where you get them, through a lye calculator yourself to make sure the numbers are right.

The Bramble Berry videos are a good resource as well.

Thanks to everyone for welcoming me aboard :)

Vanessa, I only have one book right now & that's "Soap Maker's Workshop" by Robert McDaniel, but I'll be looking at adding more so I'll definitely be checking out those that you recommended as I've read great reviews about those 2 in particular.

Relle - One of the classes was with City East Community College in Bondi, they have a class running this Saturday & another on the 3rd of June, the other was with Nature Care College in St Leonard's :)

Thanks for the info, I found the Bondi one online myself and checked out the other with your link and no soap making this term. I'll pass on the info to her.
