Hello! I'm Erin from Edinburgh in Scotland.

I've only just started making soap but I'm loving it. My first CP batch was made from a "Make your own soap" package of pre-measured ingredients so I could see whether I liked it, my second was a recipe from a book, and once I get the feel for it and what the different oils do I'm looking forward to trying out a few of my own recipes. Here's some pics from my second batch:

I was a little bit worried about the white specks but the soap seems to be ok - no zap )

Hi Erin,

Welcome to the forum! :D

Your soap looks great! I had some white specks (more like little lumps) in one of my soaps. I soaped it at room temp and my theory was the palm was either not melted completely or had started to resolidify. I may be wrong about this but it lathers great. I also thought the white spots made it look more interesting.

Thanks for your kind welcomes everyone!

The recipe I used was coconut oil, palm oil and sunflower and it took an age to trace, partially because of the ingredients, partially because it was at room temp, and partially as I was hand stirring (I don't have a hand blender yet as my in-laws have said they're getting us one for Christmas). So the white specks could very well be palm oil.

I next plan to try out soap with hemp oil for some Christmassy Cinnimon and orange soap and then try my hand at some castille soap. I think I'll wait till I have a blender before I try Castille as I've heard it can take ages to trace.
