Hi, I'm Megan. I am a rabbit fanatic with a budding soap making hobby.

After watching endless video tutorials and reading recipes very closely, I took the plunge yesterday and made my first batch of goat's milk soap.

I hope to perfect a 'tried and true' recipe and use that to make soap for myself so that I never have to buy it again. Additionally, I'm excited to make lip balm, body butter, and other items. Due to being on a budget, I am most interested in simple recipes using affordable ingredients.

It's very nice to be here!

Welcome Megan, all rabbit lovers welcomed here. I have a bunny by the name of Pippi. Good luck with your soap making and keep any bunnies away when you make soap. My best advice is when you are curing it put it somewhere away from the moulting bunny (if you have one or many or any) :).

Hi Megan, I spin wool as well as make soap and recently found out that I am allergic to rabbit hair after trying to spin some. Welcome to this fantastic group :) I love goat milk soap

What are hard rolls? I must be missing out, because I've never heard of them. Then again, I only recently moved to NJ from the West Coast!

Simple recipe for soap

45-50% Palm Shortening/Palm oil/Lard/Tallow
30-35% Olive oil/High Oleic Canola/High Oleic Sunflower
20% Coconut oil.

I believe you can get the Palm Shortening and oils at Walmart or Costco. Lye at hardware stores around you.

For how to know if an oil is high Oleic, read this

perfect. now i may not have to order from washington and waiting 3 weeks for canola oil to arrive. is there a certain brand that you know is high oleic?
