I started making CP soap in 1971 with my Mother. She had a Degree in Chemistry, so we tried soap with Lewis Lye, with the recipe on the can. It worked, and all our soap was made with kitchen waste fats. I moved north, and made a few batches, but lost the recipe. While looking for a recipe, I see that soap has come a long way, and almost any thing can be used in soap. I want to move to HP soap, and use fat from bears, moose, and beaver that we harvest and eat. Winters do get a little long, so hoping to use this as a time killer.:) Thanks for letting me join!

Welcome. I never made soap before a few months ago. I can slightly remember my grandmother making something she called lye soap. Since I was barely 6-7 years old, I was not allowed near her when she was doing it. It was a hot process that she did outside. I remember a fire, that's why I think it was hot process.
